Amity School of applied sciences organized a seminar on Advancements of Fingerprints Science on 17th March 2021. The objective of the event was to provide information about the significance of the science of fingerprints and understand various methods to detect the fingerprints with the help of various techniques by using physical and chemical methods.
Dr. Richa Rohtagi, Assistant Professor, Forensic Sciences elaborated the information about the advancements in fingerprint science. Students learned about fingerprints, how fingerprints play an important role at the scene of the crime. Fingerprints are unique in nature which don’t change during the lifetime of an individual and can be classified. There are three types of fingerprints- visible (patent), invisible (latent), and plastic prints. Invisible prints are detected with the help of physical and chemical methods. Physical methods include powders, magnetic powders, organic powders, thermoplastic powders, and Chemical methods include iodine, ninhydrin method, silver nitrate, amido black, etc. Students also learned about the difference between latex, vinyl, and nitrile gloves and how the results differ by varying the methods.
A total of 60 students attended the seminar. Overall, the seminar was informative, and students learned an interdisciplinary aspect of research.
