Dr. Divya M is currently an Assistant Professor at Amity University. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Functional English from Calicut University and her Master's in English Literature from Mahatma Gandhi University. With a deep interest in education through theatre, Dr. Divya earned her PhD from the Central University of South Bihar, where her research centered on enhancing critical thinking skills in undergraduate English classrooms through Theatre of the Oppressed techniques. She was awarded the National Fellowship, which supported her doctoral research. Her teaching and research interests include communication skills, business communication, applied theatre, and critical pedagogy.
Dr. Divya M holds a PhD in English from the Central University of South Bihar, where her research, titled Enhancing Critical Thinking Skills Through Theatre of the Oppressed: An Experimental Study. Her research involved developing intervention materials and conducting empirical studies to test the effectiveness of participatory theatre techniques in fostering critical thinking among students, aligning with the goals of NEP 2020 to create a holistic and learner-centric education system. She is particularly passionate about democratic teaching practices and their role in fostering critical thought. Her research interests include critical pedagogy, applied theatre, critical thinking, and communication skills. She has co-authored two books, Enhance Your English: Essential Grammar for All (2017) and Nuts and Bolts of English (2017), and has published research papers on topics such as Critical Thinking in the Indian Education System, Democratic Teaching: Key to Stimulating Critical Thinking, and Unveiling the Lattices of Women: The Race and The Sun Also Rises.
Selected as a trainer under the Government of Kerala’s Additional Skill Acquisition Program, Dr. Divya has completed specialized training and brings over six years of experience as a language and soft skills trainer. She has also conducted numerous theatre workshops across Kerala for various age groups in both schools and colleges. Prior to joining Amity University as an Assistant Professor, she worked as a consultant at NCERT.
