Col RK Dargan started his career with the Indian Army in 1965. After over 32 years in the Army, in 1997, he joined the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) as visiting Professor and Officer on Special Duty. During his tenure in IIMC, he led benchmarking projects that developed and achieved new initiatives. Prominent among his many achievements was introduction of Media Education for Defense Forces, with a view to provide consultancy to the three Armed Services and Para Military Forces in guiding and implementing long range initiatives linked to their long term requirements of communication, image management and effective public and media relations. Col Dargan organized seminars all over the country on the role of media in conflict resolution and crisis communication and how the Armed Forces could use media as a Force Multiplier particularly in combating hostile public opinion through an effective management of Media. His core competences are in conceptualizing, visualizing and designing internal communication, workshops and media training and evaluation of communication activities and recommend future actions.
Prof (Col) Dargan also provided consultancy to the Governments of Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram.
He is a guest speaker at Indian Institute of Public Administration, BSF Academy Gwalior, Coast Guard, College of Defense Management, Army War College, Rashtriya Indian Military College and is a visiting faculty for subjects on Defence and Security issues and peace and conflict studies at various Media Schools and numerous other media institutes.
Prof Dargan has introduced a number of new prestigious post graduate programmes in the curriculum in Amity School of Communication. He has worked extensively on curriculum development to help institutions to improve soft skills, communication skills, creativity and teamwork.
Prof (Col) Dargan is on the panel of trainers for BBC World Service Trust along with other international trainers and has organized training for senior government officers of central and state governments at numerous locations in India and abroad.
In 2005, Prof Dargan joined Amity School of Communication, a premier media education institute in the country under India’s largest private University Amity University, which offers professional courses in mass communication, advertising, event management, public relations, film making and media management, both, at undergraduate and post graduate levels. In April 2006, he was promoted as Director.
ASCO under the able leadership of Prof Dargan initiated the set up of state-of-the-art HD Studio and Community Radio Station and has successfully completed the project. Radio Amity 107.8 Mhz was inaugurated on 24th October, 2013 and ever since broadcasting programmes.
Prof Dargan has travelled extensively all over the world and has a great interest in sports. He is a national level Golfer.
