Development Of Nanomaterial Based Smart Slow Release Agrochemicals:
Conventional Methods Of Controlling Insect Pests And Phytopathogenic Microbes Not Only Contaminate The Environment But Also Affects The Economy Of The Agricultural Sector As Most Of The Agrochemicals (Insecticide, Fungicide Etc.) Applied Are Lost In The Environment. Moreover, Extensive Use Of Agrochemicals Leads To Contamination Of Food Crops With Toxic Residue. Our Lab Is Currently Involved In Development Of Porous Nano Forms Of Plant Micronutrient For Delivery Of Fungicides. This Nanocarrier Is Further Coated With Polysaccharide Gates Which Only Can Be Breached By Fungal Enzymes. So The Fungicide Will Come Out Only In Case Of Fungal Infestation.
Nanocomposite Entrapped Microbes For Removal Of Heavy Metals From Wastewater
Several Engineered Nanostructures Are Already Being Employed For Heavy Removal From Contaminated Water Sources. This Is Mainly Because Of Their High Surface Area To Volume Ratio Which Ensures Higher Physical Adsorption. Moreover, Their Surface Can Be Modified With Amine And Hydroxyl Groups, Which Can Convert Toxic Heavy Metals To Their Nontoxic Forms. Our Lab In Collaboration With Other Labs Is Making A Nano-Bio Composite Of Nanoparticles And Microbes, Capable Of Biotransformation Or Biosorption.
As always, my primary aim in teaching is students’ participation through interaction during and beyond scheduled class hours. Classes are made more interesting with audio-visual aids, industry and research lab visits. As I have my own research lab I take summer project students from our department to motivate students in research.
