Dr. Prakash is a science graduate who earned his Ph.D. in Media Management from MGAHV (Central University), Wardha, & an M.Phil. & M.A. in mass communication.
And a P.G. Diploma in Journalism from Delhi University. He also completed a PG Diploma in Electronic Media Management and Film Production from MGAHV, Wardha.
Dr. Rakesh Prakash is a journalist with over 16 years of experience in Digital, TV, Radio, and Print Media before moving to academia. He was previously a Producer with Zee News, Noida, producing several news bulletins and programs viz. Zee Helpline, Crime Reporter, Honi Anhoni, and The Inside Story. Also worked as a copy editor with ETV Network, a sub-editor with www.jagran.com, and a casual Website Editor with www.newsonair.com.
He also has diverse experience in the media –Assistant Editor with DD News, Empanelled Editor with the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), DKMA (ICAR), New Delhi, and Directorate of Publication, GB Pant Univ. of Agri. & Tech., Pant Nagar, Member of Board of Studies, Department of Performing Arts, MGAHV (Central Univ.), Wardha, & part of the editorial board of different research journals.
In his earlier role as a media professional, he worked as a Casual News Editor, and Reporter with All India Radio, and a writer for PIB, New Delhi. Interviewed cricketer Ajay Sharma in a match-fixing case related to Ajay Jadeja, Md. Azharuddin & Hansie Cronje, Chess Grandmaster Pravin Thipsey, Theatre artist Sanjana Kapoor, American social activist Dev Makkar, Pakistani Singer Adeel Burqi, and famous cardiologist Dr. Naresh Trehan. Written articles for newspapers and websites. Participated in the online seminar/conference as a speaker and moderator on different issues. He has published research articles in various research journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and UGC Care list, and authored two books.
His core academic interest is in the area of television programming, newsroom operations, media management, electronic media research, and documentary film-making. He is also a writer who likes to explore new cultures.

He Won the Pandit GB Pant Award (2019-20) of the Bureau of Police Research and Development, New Delhi. Won second prize for research paper presentation at National Student Academic Congress, 2016 organized by Delhi University & 3rd prize in extempore Story writing competition-2008 organized by Hindi Academy, New Delhi.
