Interactive session with Dr. Suresh C. Sikka

Dr. Suresh C. Sikka, Senior Professor at Tulane University Medical Centre, USA visited Amity University to take another Ph.D. student in the specific area of Bioenvironmental issues in Male Reproduction and prostate health”. Previously, Dr. Sikka has guided and supported Ms. Namarta Khurana, a Ph.D. student from Amity for more than 3 years and the Ph.D. thesis entitled “Therapeutic Potential of Sulforaphane (SFN) in Androgen-Dependent (AD) and Castration Resistant Prostate Cancer (CRPC) Cells” has been successfully defended.

Sharing his interest in mentoring another Ph.D. scholar from Amity University, Dr. Sikka shared his assurance of funding to support the Ph.D. student for a period of three (03) years. He also discussed further research collaboration with the University. Having recently published a book titled, Bioenvironmental Issues Affecting Men's Reproductive and Sexual Health, Dr. Sikka held a talk on the subject ‘Oxidative Stress Response Elements related to Inflammatory issues of the Male Genitourinary Reproductive Tract.

Dr. Sikka holds varied interests including male reproductive health, oxidative stress and male infertility and prostate cancer and is also Honorary Professor of Andrology at Amity University. The focus of his current research is on inflammatory issues of the lower genitourinary/reproductive tract. This is now understood to be the root cause of many such problems (e.g., prostatitis, BPH & cancer, infertility, erectile dysfunction, other lower urinary tract related issues including UTI & incontinence). These symptoms are now collectively called as LUTS. How our external and internal Bio-environment (including stress) is related to such LUTS issues including intervening mechanisms and interactions is not known. Such research at Tulane will be the theme of the Ph.D. student chosen from Amity University. Also present on the occasion were senior faculty members and Ph.D students of Amity University.
