AI, Digitalisation and Sustainable Infrastructure Take Centre Stage at Amity University’s TRACE 2026

Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET), Amity University Noida is organizing the 6th Edition of the International Conference on “Trends and Recent Advances in Civil Engineering (TRACE 2026)” from October 7–8, 2026. The conference encompasses the broad spectrum of contemporary research in Civil Engineering, including Structural Engineering, Energy and Environment, Geomatics, Water Resources and Transportation Engineering.

Inaugurating the Conference, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Senior Expert/Consultant (Ocean Science & Technology), Scientist ‘G’ (Retd) and Advisor, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, spoke about the importance of scientific and technological advancements in addressing complex environmental and infrastructure challenges. He said that future civil engineers need to be problem-solvers, technology-users and responsible professionals.

Emphasizing upon the significance of advanced research and innovative approaches in developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure, Dr. Manish Gupta, Director, Central Soil and Material Research Station, New Delhi, said that civil engineering must include the application of technologies such as remote sensing, machine learning, robotics and AI and drones. “However, AI cannot replace human thinking, and engineers must be extremely responsible about the safety of buildings and structures which they create”, he added.

Sh. Nalin Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), highlighted the need for sustainable approaches and technological interventions for effective water resource management and environmental conservation. He said that civil engineers must make efforts to save rivers from pollutants and work towards achieving substantial outcomes.

A key highlight of the conference was the bestowing of Honorary Professorship upon Prof. (Dr.) Bhola NS Ghimire, Department of Civil Engineering, Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, Nepal, in recognition of his academic contributions and expertise in the field of Civil Engineering.

Accepting the honour, Prof. (Dr.) Ghimire said, “I express my gratitude to Amity University for bestowing this honour upon me. This is the beginning of a long-lasting association with Amity, and I will be glad to share my knowledge and expertise with the students.” He called upon the students to be curious, fearless and not be afraid of failure.

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh & Patron, TRACE 2026, underlined the importance of research, innovation and global academic collaboration in advancing Civil Engineering education and practices. She emphasized on the need to equip students and researchers with future-ready knowledge and skills to address evolving infrastructure and sustainability challenges to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Welcoming the distinguished guests and participants, Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Pandey, Director, ASET said that with the civil engineering sector witnessing rapid technological transformation, TRACE 2026 will focus on the growing need for innovative construction materials, digitalization and automation, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in civil engineering practices.

The conference also featured the release of TRACE 2026 Proceedings/Book of Abstracts, showcasing contemporary research and scholarly contributions presented during the conference. During the two-day Conference, Keynote addresses will be delivered by Dr. S. K. Tyagi and Prof. G. V. Ramana of IIT Delhi; Dr. Sanjay Kumar Shukla of Edith Cowan University; Prof. Yusuf Mehta of Rowan University; Prof. Krishna R. Reddy of the University of Illinois Chicago; Dr. Nidhi Nagabathla of United Nations University, amongst others. In addition, Technical Sessions on “Seismic Resilience and Disaster Mitigation”, “Technology for a Sustainable Future”, “Civil Engineering in the Digital Age: Challenges Ahead & Strategies for Being Future Ready” and many others will be organized along with Research Paper Presentations.
