Noida Police sensitizes Amity students about Anti-Ragging Laws on National Anti-Ragging Day

Amity University Noida campus celebrated National Anti-Ragging Day, commemorating the implementation of the Prohibition and Eradication of Ragging Act- 2019. The event aimed to spread awareness amongst the students about the ill-effects of ragging as a menace, preventive measures to curb ragging and legal provisions thereof.

Addressing the students, Mr. Yamuna Prasad, DCP, Gautam Budh Nagar, averred, “It is extremely important to sensitize the students about the ill-effects of ragging in order to prevent ragging in colleges and universities. Earlier ragging used to be a friendly and warm introduction of the freshers but slowly it took the form of an evil practice, wherein students started being harassed by their seniors and were forced to perform the activities, as instructed by their seniors, causing mental trauma to the students. Therefore, students must know anti-ragging laws so that they can protect themselves from such incidents and take appropriate action against the culprits.”

Mr. Praveen Kumar, ACP, Gautam Budh Nagar, said, “There is a very thin line between introduction and ragging and students must inform the concerned authorities in case they find any ragging incidents inside or outside their college campus. Anti-ragging laws are very rigid and strict penal action is taken in such cases, under the Anti-Ragging Act-2011.”

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Amity Anti-ragging Cell was established in 2009, to protect the students from becoming a victim of ragging. Students must have self-respect, and they must never allow others to disrespect them. Being friendly with each other is a great way of making friends and supporting each other. However, when it takes the ugly form of ragging, it causes a lot of mental stress to the students and lowers their self-esteem and confidence. We are glad to share that no such incidents have been reported in Amity University campus, and we have all the systems and protocols in place to prevent such incidents and penalise the criminals, in case any such incident is reported.”

On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) D P Singh, Chairman Anti Ragging Committee, Amity University shared the important guidelines for the students, to prevent and report ragging incidents on the campus. Also present on the occasion were Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Bansal, Additional Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Dr. H.P. Singh, Dean Student Welfare Amity University and students.
