Earth Day-2025 celebrated at Amity
Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management (AIETSM), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida celebrated ‘Earth Day 2025’ by organizing an insightful Conference titled, "Science meets Sanskriti for Sustainability: Save Environment, Save Earth”. The aim of the Conference was to highlight the synergy between science and Sanskriti in ecological conservation and bring together researchers, policymakers and environmentalists to discuss solutions for a sustainable planet.
Inaugurating the Conference, Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Ex-Director General of Forests & Special Secretary, MoEF&CC, New Delhi, stated, “Since ancient times, we have been very close to nature and we used to follow all sustainable practices such as eating on banana leaves, using earthen pots and utensils, living in mud houses, and many other practices. We believe that the whole world is one family, i.e, “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam”, and we must take care of our environment so as to ensure a sustainable existence for all. “Rainwater Harvesting”, “Net Zero Carbon Emission” and “Zero Food Wastage” help in creating a clean and pure environment. In addition, initiatives such as “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam”, promotion of e-vehicles and ban of single use plastic are some of the steps which the government is taking to ensure sustainability.”
Mr. K. J. Alphons, Former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Minister of State (Independent Charge) Tourism, Govt. of India, averred, “Today, our environment including air and water have become extremely polluted. The need of the hour is to be extremely responsible towards our environment and practice what we preach, so that we can protect nature, and the next generations can live peacefully in a good and healthy environment.”
Mr. Punit Sood, Co-Convener, Delhi and Member all India team, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, opined, “Waste segregation, e-waste management and use of chemical -free products, are some of the sustainable practices which must be adopted. WMO has confirmed 2024 as the warmest year on record at about 1.55 Degree Celsius above pre-industrial level, therefore, we must start caring for the environment before it is too late.”
Dr. W Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, said, “The Conference aims to create a meaningful dialogue on integrating modern scientific advancements with traditional ecological wisdom to develop sustainable solutions for earth, environment, energy, forest and river conservation. The conference will serve as a unique confluence of modern science and India’s rich cultural heritage, creating pathways for sustainable living inspired by both innovation and tradition.”
Prof. Tanu Jindal, Director, Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management (AIETSM) presented an overview of Amity Sustainability Initiatives such as the establishment of Amity Global Research Hub, New York Long Island campus and Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation, which are instrumental in promoting sustainable practices.
