AMITY INSTITUTE OF REHABILITATION SCIENCES CELEBRATES ‘AUTISM AWARENESS DAY’

Amity Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences(AIRS), Amity University Uttar Pradesh (Noida) celebrated ‘Autism Awareness Day’ on 3rd April 2025 with great enthusiasm. The event aimed to spread awareness about autism and foster inclusivity for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. As a part of the celebration, engaging and educational three competitions were organized to highlight different aspects of Autism such as Life Skills through Social Stories, Pictionary related Autism Quiz and Slogan on Autism Presentation.

 

Eighty Pre-Service Special Educators from esteemed universities and organizations namely Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi; Association for Advancement And Rehabilitation Of Handicapped, New Delhi; National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (RC Noida); Teacher Training Institute (DSWSC Okhla Centre); Action for Autism, GGSIPU; National Trust for Handicapped,

www.acld.inNational Trust for the Handicapped, New Delhi; Army Institute of Education, Greater Noida and Amity Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences, Amity University, Noida actively participated in the various competitions.

 

Prof. (Dr.) Jayanti Pujari, Dean-Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences and Director, AIRS welcomed the participants and appreciated them for showcasing their innovation and creative skill set. Showering her blessings and addressing the august gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University said, ‘There is a need to create an inclusive society. We need to develop a competence of understanding the people with disability rather than making them realize that they are different’. She appreciated and congratulated the participants for showing their commitment towards empowering persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder.’ Dr. S.K Srivastava, Sr. Director and Advisor at FPO addressed the participants and cherished the talent shown by each one of them.

 

The event was graced by two eminent international speakers virtually, Dr. Chandrika Devarakonda, Associate Professor, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Chester, UK and Dr. Prithvi Perepa – Associate Professor, Disability, Inclusion, and Special Needs, Birmingham Centre for Neurogenetics. Both distinguished speakers emphasized the importance of understanding autism, inclusive education, and strategies to support individuals on the spectrum.

 

To appreciate the efforts and participation, awards were presented for all three events to the winners. The Autism Awareness Day celebration was a successful initiative in promoting understanding, inclusivity, and awareness about autism. The participation of pre-service special educators from various institutions added value to the event, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants, organizers, and guests for making the celebration a resounding success.
