National Science Day celebrated at Amity University

Amity University celebrated National Science Day, on the theme “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovation for Viksit Bharat”.

 

Addressing the students, Chief Guest, Dr. N. K. Mehra, Vice President (International affairs) Indian National Science Academy (INSA), said, “Human life will face many challenges in the next fifty years such as clean energy, water, food and nutrition security, climate change, environmental pollution, population and many others. Strengthening STEM Education, encouraging innovation and start-ups, bridging the skill gap, strong focus on sustainability and inclusivity and promoting young leadership are some of the ways in which India can become a developed nation by 2047.” He called upon the students to try novel approaches, think big and never be scared of failures.

 

Dr. Seema Khanna, Deputy Director General, NIC, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt. of India, averred, “Students must be passionate about whatever they do in life and put their heart and soul into it. Youth power is the agent and beneficiary of change and students are extremely lucky to be witnessing a world which is developing rapidly with huge advancements in the area of science and technology. Everyone is not a topper, but students must believe in themselves and follow their dreams. AI and Cyber Security are the two areas which hold a promising future for the young bright minds since these two fields are transforming the world at fast pace.”

 

Dr. Shital Garg, Scientist G, SSPL-DRDO, stated, “Science helps us understand and address complex challenges like climate change, poverty, and inequality and solve real-world problems. Acquiring knowledge leads to developing an idea which takes the form of innovation. Innovations are not just new creation but a legacy of self-reliance and creativity. The commercialization of innovation contributes to the economy and increases the wealth of nations. Science is not just a profession, it is a mission to solve problems, improve lives and strengthen our nation.”

 

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, said, “National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28th February to mark the discovery of phenomenon of scattering of photons by Indian Scientist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, which was later known as ‘Raman Effect’. Amity University focusses strongly on research and innovation and there can be no innovation without science. Science plays a major role in shaping the lives of the people in our society and therefore students must develop a scientific temperament and understanding so that they can contribute to the development of their country and the world.”

 

Also present on the occasion were Dr. Chanderdeep Tandon, Addl. Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dean, Biosciences & Biotechnology, Amity University, Noida, Dr. BK Murthy, Dean Translational Research, Dr. Sunita Rattan, Director, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, faculty, researchers and students of Amity. On National Science Day, Panel Discussions on topics such as “Reshaping the world through AI”, “Raman discovery and its relevance to futuristic science and technology”, “How to expand your experience and capacity for external projects”, were held along with Food Innovator’s Idea Pitch Competition, Food Photography Competition, Debate Competition, Poster Competition and Science Quiz.
