Amity University organizes DST Sponsored, Capacity Building Program in “Geospatial Science & Technology”
Amity University has organized DST Sponsored, Three-Week Capacity Building Program in ‘Geospatial Science and Technology’ from 18th November to 7th December, 2024, wherein 35 participants from renowned institutions such as Delhi University, IIT Delhi, JNU and others, participated. The Training Program was organized with an aim to enhance the practical skills of Research Scholars, Faculty Members from Universities/Colleges, Scientists, and Post-Doctoral Researchers to gain practical research experience in emerging areas of Geospatial Technology.
Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Session, Air Vice Marshal Pawan Kumar, VM, Director General of the Defence Space Agency (DSA), averred, “India aspires to be a leading player in the global space economy which was valued at $450 billion in 2023. The global industry is projected to grow to around$1.05 trillion by 2035 and by 2025, the market value of India’s space segments is projected to see significant growth. It is our responsibility to see how we can take our country forward and make a huge impact in the world through our Space Sector.”
Emphasizing upon the significance of Geo- Informatics and Remote Sensing, Mr. Rajesh C Mathur, Sr Director – Strategy, ESRI India Ltd. stated, “Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing is applicable in various fields including Environmental Monitoring, Urban Planning, Agriculture, Disaster management, Natural Resource Management and Infrastructure Development. Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing integrated with Generative AI, can yield the best results in many areas such as improved decision-making, increased efficiency and enhanced accuracy. The participants must acquire as much knowledge as they can during the three-week program and make the most of this wonderful opportunity.”
Sharing his views on the occasion, Dr. Rajeev Jaiswal, OSD to Chairman ISRO, said, “It is the youth of the country who will contribute the maximum to the Space Technology sector, with their bright minds and innovative ideas. Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing plays a crucial role in ensuring a sustainable environment which is the need of the hour as climate change is taking its toll on our planet and deteriorating the quality of air, water, making the living conditions highly unsuitable for living beings’ survival. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the private sector and academia to work collaboratively and find solutions to the real-world problems. Bhartiya Antariksh Station will be launched by 2028, and more skilled power is required for the Space Sector, so that our country can make unprecedented development in this field. “
Highlighting the significance of the Program, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “The Program will be instrumental in promoting research and development in emerging areas of geospatial science and technology, developing geospatial solutions that align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national developmental priorities, building knowledge and adaptation capacity of geospatial technologies in collaboration with academia and user agencies, stimulating the growth of geospatial technology innovation.”
Also present on the occasion were Dr. S. P. Singh, Director, Amity Institute of Geo-Informatics and Remote Sensing (AIGIRS), Prof Chanderdeep Tandon, Additional Pro-VC, Amity University Uttar Pradesh. During the three-week Program, Sessions on “Spatial Perception and Visualization”, “Spatial Relationships and Pattern”, “Spatial Data Sources and Tools”, “Spatial Analysis Techniques”, and “Spatial Thinking in Policy and Planning”, amongst others, will also be conducted.
