Amity University in collaboration with Navbharat Times organized a “Cyber Security Awareness Workshop’ under “NBT Cyber Suraksha Kavach Abhiyan
Amity University in collaboration with Navbharat Times organized a “Cyber Security Awareness Workshop’ under “NBT Cyber Suraksha Kavach Abhiyan, at Amity University campus. The workshop was aimed to create awareness amongst students regarding cyber crimes and was attended by the Chief Guest, Mr. Vivek Ranjan Rai, ACP & Incharge Cyber Crime, Commissioner Gautam Buddh Nagar, Mr. Pravin Singh, ACP Noida, Mr. Vijay Gautam, SHO Sector-36, Cyber Crime Station and Mr. Shyam Vir, Bureau Chief, Navbharat Times Noida along with hundreds of students from Amity Law School and Amity Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The Workshop was coordinated by Dr. Savita Mehta, Vice President-Communications, Amity Education Group along with the media team. Also present on the occasion were Mr Yogesh, Reporter, Navbharat Times, Mr. Ramesh Sharma, Photographer, Navbharat Times, Dr. H.P. Singh, Dean, Student Welfare Amity University, Dr. B.P. Nayak, Associate Professor, Amity Institute of Forensic Science, and the Emcee for the event was Dr. Sumitra Singh, Associate Professor, Amity Law School.
Addressing the students, Mr. Vivek Ranjan Rai, ACP & Incharge Cyber Crime, Commissioner Gautam Buddh Nagar, averred, “Cyber-attacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information and extorting money from users through various means. Cybercrimes have increased because of the advancement of technology since it is very easy to trap people by taking the help of technology. Digital Arrest is the latest form of cyber fraud, wherein a person is arrested digitally and money is extorted from the person, by threatening them of the various consequences if they do not comply with the fraudster’s instructions. Fraudsters also lure innocent people with job offers and once they are trapped, they extract money from them. Trading is also another way through which cyber criminals extract money from the victims. The hackers build trust over a phone call and extract personal information regarding the email id, password, OTP, etc. very tactfully.” He advised the students not to click on any unknown links, share their personal information and accept friend requests from unknown people on Social Media.
Mr. Pravin Singh, ACP Noida, said, “Students should not get involved in any fights, and other unwanted incidents and must use Social Media sites very carefully. Parents send their children to educational institutions so that they can build their career, therefore, students must remain focussed on their aim and study hard to make their parents and institution proud.”
Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Cyber security awareness is extremely crucial in today’s scenario, when cybercrimes are increasing rapidly. Students must share everything with their parents and teachers and must remember that their parents are their best friends who have true concern and affection for them. Therefore, they must stay away from strangers and have a close-knit circle of friends and family.”
Mr. Vijay Gautam, SHO Sector-36, Cyber Crime Station, opined, “When a person is greedy, cyber criminals take advantage of the situation and gradually trap them and play mind games with the psychology of the person. Therefore, one needs to be extremely cautious and vigilant when a stranger approaches them.”
Mr Shyam Vir, Bureau Chief, Navbharat Times Noida, said, “NBT is extremely pleased and honoured to organize the Programme on Cyber Security for the students of Amity. We hope that the workshop has been beneficial in creating awareness and the students will be more careful and alert in future.”
Mr. Vivek Ranjan shared posters with students on Cyber Crime awareness and the students posed with the posters, copies of which were left behind with Dr. H.P. Singh, with a request to display at prominent places within the University campus.
An interactive Q&A Session was also held wherein students clarified their doubts and queries with the Police Personnel.
