National Seminar on “Innovation & Intellectual Property Rights”, held at Amity

 

Amity Business School, Amity University Noida organized a National Seminar on “Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights”, with the aim to provide information regarding Intellectual Property Rights.

 

Delivering the Keynote Address, Mr. Satish Kumar, Assistant Director, Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India, said, “Intellectual Property is the creation of mind and Intellectual Property Rights create value and establish ownership. The components of IPR include providing Financial Assistance to MSMEs, and Financial Assistance under the IPR scheme is as under patent, trademarks, GI registration, Design Registration. He also explained about the initiatives taken by the Ministry of MSMEs to promote IP Filings in India.  Such as IPR Scheme, IPR Yathra IP Awareness Programmes in Aspirational Blocks, One District One GI Initiative and GI Mahotsav.” Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Intellectual property India and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property management are some key institutions for protecting Intellectual property Rights.

Highlighting the significance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights, Dr. G. R. Raghavender, Senior Consultant (IPR), CIPAM, Former Joint Secretary, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, stated, “India has the third largest start up ecosystem in the world and there are around 12 lakh start ups who have filed patents. Basically, patent is any invention which has novelty. India has the largest number of unicorns; therefore, it is crucial for them to protect their Intellectual Property and patent filing has gone up by 44% in the last few years, since the IP valuation of a start -up is mandatory. The brand name is a unique identity of a product which differentiates it from other similar products in the market. Therefore, it is essential to protect the Intellectual Property, so that no other company can create its copy. “

Sharing his views on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Shyamalendu Niyogi Advisor, Amity Education Group, said, “Intellectual Property includes patents, trademarks, and companies invest a lot of time and effort to build brands and sell products. Therefore, it is important to protect the Intellectual Property so that it cannot be misused by other any other entity.  Intellectual Property Rights provide multiple options for companies to protect ideas in many forms and the misuse of IP Rights is illegal.”

Welcoming the guests, Dr. Sanjeev Bansal, Dean FMS & Director ABS said, “The Seminar is expected to provide an interactive platform to the academicians, scholars, students and industry personnel to understand the creation, protection, and dissemination of knowledge on various themes and sub themes under the realm of Intellectual Property Rights. It will not only facilitate a systematic understanding of the laws and rules of Intellectual Property Rights but will also inspire the participants to develop their innovative skills and will equip them to protect their innovations.”

Rana & Co., New Delhi. Also present on the occasion were the faculty and students of Amity Business School and the Programme concludes with an interactive Q&A Session.
