Amity University celebrates “International Day of Immunology”

 Amity Institute of Virology and Immunology (AIVI), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus, celebrated International Day of Immunology on the theme, “Immunology Talks to Public Health.”

 

Deliberating upon “Tuberculosis Research in the 21st century”, Prof. Nisheeth Agarwal, Professor, Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Faridabad, Haryana, averred, “Drug resistance is a major problem in management of Tuberculosis; therefore, development of new drug candidates is the need of the hour. CRISPRi-based gene silencing is proven useful for identification of novel drug targets in the tuberculosis pathogen and CRISPRi-based screen has identified a novel drug target ClpC1, which is absent in humans and plays an important role in Mycobacterium Pathophysiology.”

Speaking about “Immunology Talks to Public Health”, Dr. Taruna Madan, Scientist F and Head, Department of Innate Immunity, National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Mumbai, said, “Developing immunity is crucial in order to stay healthy and therefore, students must participate in such programmes and contribute to the healthcare sector by vaccine manufacturing and drug research which will help in developing immunity and prevent diseases, thereby ensuring a healthy and fit country.”

Highlighting the significance of International Day of Immunology, Prof. W Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, said, “The purpose of International Day of Immunology is to increase global awareness of the importance of immunology in the fight against infection, autoimmunity, and cancer. The life expectancy of Indians has increased from 40 years to 70 years which shows remarkable progress made in the field of healthcare, by developing vaccines for various fatal diseases. The day also emphasizes upon the significance of the way forward and the steps which need to be taken in this field.” 

 

Welcoming the guests on this occasion, Prof. Narayan Rishi, Advisor, Amity Institute of Virology & Immunology, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, “International Day of Immunology is celebrated with the aim to increase global awareness of the importance of immunology and demonstrate how our understanding of human immunology can improve public health. At Amity, Immunology and Virology is an integral part of the course curriculum and there is one full paper dedicated specifically to this subject, for the students.”

 

The Programme which was attended by a large number of students of Amity, concluded with the felicitation of guests and the Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Devinder Toor, Organizing Secretary, Amity Institute of Virology & Immunology, Amity University Uttar Pradesh.
