Amity University Madhya Pradesh organizes "Annual Debate Competition" 2023

 Amity University, Madhya Pradesh organized the Annual Debate competition on March 18,2023 for the students of first year across all the departments of different streams. The debate was conducted in Lincoln Douglas format.

 
The topics which were debated were pertinent to today’s scenario. The three topics were:
1. Globalization is a Threat to Nationalism.
2. Russia is the Provocateur in the War with Ukraine.
3. India Needs Strict Kegislation for Live in Relationships.
Following the debate, the motion for each topic was put before the house for voting with the following results:
1.     Globalization is a threat to Nationalism : Defeated
2.     Russia is the provocateur in the war with Ukraine : Defeated
3.     India needs strict legislation for live-in relationships.: Defeated
The campus of AUMP buzzed with animated discussions and exchange of ideas as the students prepared to test their oratory skills. It was exciting for the audience as the debaters argued for and against the motion. A total number of 18 students from across programmes were shortlisted to participate in the final competition and the following were the proud winners:
 
1.     First Position  : Ms Kirti Goyal
2.     Second Position :Ms Meghna Pradhan
3.     Third Position  : Mr Gunveer Singh Saluja
The speakers were judged on the basis of Content (which included preparation and logical argument), Manner (which included oratory skills), Impact (which included teamwork, tactics) and Rebuttal.  Anshika Gupta and Ms Vaibhavi Dubey were the anchors; Mr Sahil Khan was the timekeeper; certificate writing and prize distribution was handled by Ms Sanjana Rathore and discipline was handled by & Mr Sumit Kumar, Mr Harsh Tiwari & Mr Roshan Kumar.
Dr. Rajendra Sharma, HOI AIBAS, Dr. Rachana Kathal, Associate Professor, Dept. of Applied Chemistry and Dr. Anehi Mundra, Faculty, AISS comprised the panel of Judges for the event. The annual debate competition was organized under the able guidance of Prof (Dr.) Iti Roy Chowdhury, Director, ASCENT, ASL& AISS.
The event culminated with the concluding remarks by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor AUMP, Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd). He congratulated the winners and emphasized upon the importance of debating skills among students.
 
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor AUMP Lt General V K Sharma (AVSM) appreciated the efforts of the students of II Semester. He stated that AUMP organizes the Annual Debate Competition every year to provide a platform to the students to groom themselves, improve their Communication Skills and to face the audience on such a large platform.
Applauding the debaters Hon’ble VC said that the topics debated upon were extremely apt according to today’s social scenario and it’s a matter of great pride that the debaters spoke with such conviction and confidence. He also gave his opinion on all the topics of debate. The encouraging words of Hon’ble VC gave a boost to the morale of the II Semester students and their mentors.   
The winners were awarded with the certificates and trophies by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor, Deputy Dean Student Welfare and the judges. Finally Ms.Anshika Gupta proposed the vote of thanks.
