Amity University organizes an International Conference titled "Pharmaceutical Technology, Phytopharmaceuticals and Biologicals: Trends 2023” (PTPPBT-2023)

Amity Institute of Pharmacy (AIP), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus, organized a two-day International Conference titled "Pharmaceutical Technology, Phytopharmaceuticals and Biologicals: Trends 2023” (PTPPBT-2023) sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, from 17 to 18 March, 2023. The Conference was organised with an aim to focus on recent developments and current trends in pharmaceutical research like novel drug development approaches, innovations in phytopharmaceuticals and paradigm shift of therapeutics to biologicals.

Addressing the gathering, Guest of Honour, Dr. Atul K. Nasa, President, Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association (IPGA) averred, “Such conferences are highly beneficial in imparting knowledge to the students on the latest developments in the pharmaceutical sector. Today, Phytopharmaceuticals are playing a very important role in prevention of many diseases including Covid-19. The role of technology, including Artificial Intelligence, in the pharmaceutical industry, is very crucial in the development of new drugs and vaccines.”

Delivering the Keynote Address, Chief Guest, Dr. Rajan Goel, Ex. Director, R&D Lupin, stated, “It is extremely crucial to select the right discovery research project to ensure success with-in projected timelines. The latest pharmaceutical industry trends and innovations include Additive Manufacturing, Precision Medicine, Digital Therapeutics, Big Data & Analytics, Flexible Production, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. The mantra to taste success in novel drug discovery and development research includes failing, learning and improving since without failure, there can be no success. Therefore, the researchers should not get disheartened by the failure of drugs discovered by them and constantly work on improving them and coming up with better versions.”

Dr Ashok K. Bhattacharya, Consultant & Former Managing Director, Takeda India, said, “Amity is a globally renowned and respected institution, and the students should feel proud of studying at such a great institution. Industry and academia must join hands and work together in the field of drug discovery. 70% of global vaccines are from India but there is a need for shift from quantitative to qualitative research. India can outsmart the world in terms of drug discovery, however, the environment for R&D needs to be created and the onus lies on the students as they are the brilliant minds of tomorrow. They should not only aspire to get a degree but must dream big and become entrepreneurs who can make their country proud. The future of healthcare is very bright, and innovation is the need of the hour.”

Welcoming the guests on this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) B.C. Das, Dean – Health & Allied Sciences Domain, stated, “This conference is highly significant for the students since they will get information and become aware about where India stands today in terms of drug discovery. It takes many years to discover a new drug, however, we have seen a revolution in the case of vaccine discovery for Covid 19. Technology has impacted the pharma sector immensely and with the help of technology, new drugs and vaccines are being developed at a faster pace. The course curriculum must also be revised from time to time for students and modern aspects must be included. Industry connect must be the focus area for academia so that students can get hands on training and experience by working in the industry.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sandeep Arora, Director, Amity Institute of Pharmacy, asserted, “The conference aims to bring together the researchers, scientists and scholars from industry and academics at a common platform to discuss the ideas of upcoming developments & trends and deliver in depth sessions and interact with the students and scholars on future prospects of pharmaceutical research.”

The Inaugural Programme concluded with an interactive Quiz Session for the students and the felicitation of guests.
