Awareness Programme on Psychological Intervention for Mental Health Issues in Homeless Population 2022
An awareness programme to Earth Saviour Foundation, Bandhwari, Gurugram, was organised by Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology and Amity Institute of Behavioural and Allied Sciences, AUH, on ‘Psychosocial Intervention for Mental Health Issues in Homeless Population 2022’ on 11th November 2022. The theme of the programme was Sensitization regarding Alzheimer's Disease. The event coordinator was Dr. Mehfooz Ahmad, Assistant Professor, AICP. Students from MPhil Clinical Psychology Part-I and Part-2 and MSC Clinical Psychology 3rdSem students participated in this programme. A total of 27 participants, including 5 faculties, were present. The programme aimed to focus on and highlight the psychiatric issues in the homeless population.
The programme educated the participants about the signs, causes, prevalence, and methods used to treat homeless people in various social strata. The programme also highlighted methods for early sickness detection and prevention in the population of homeless people. Additionally, the issue of a family member's lack of concern for an abandoned person was raised. Besides this, real-world examples were used to enhance the abilities.
The workshop also discussed how behavioural and cognitive interventions can help people with behavioural dysfunctions. For the benefit of the participants' learning, significant contributions from Mr. Jazz, the current chairman, and the late Ravi Kalra ji, the former chairman, were also discussed. The initiative placed a strong emphasis on the importance of community-based, service-oriented activities for helping the homeless. Participants have gained knowledge about the value of early intervention and stigma reduction for the homeless population.
