Research Seminar on Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopic Analysis of Illicit Liquors

On 3rd November 2022, Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Forensic Sciences (ASAS), Amity University Haryana, organised a research seminar on ‘Fourier Transform InfraRed (FT-IR) Spectroscopic Analysis of Illicit Liquors’. The event coordinator was Dr. Dipti Vaya, Associate Professor. The guest speaker was Dr. G.S. Bumbrah, Assistant Professor-I, Forensic Toxicology. A total of 47 participants, including 5 faculties, were present in the seminar.

The speaker is an expert in toxicological analysis by using various advanced instrumentation techniques. The speaker has shared the state of art technique on the topic.

The lesson starts with a basic explanation of illicit alcohol and the chemical elements that make it dangerous to consume. Students studied and gained an understanding of the Fourier transform spectroscopic approach. The technique is useful for the analysis of illicit alcohol. Additionally, the students learned about several methods, including PCA, chemometric analysis, and methods for data reduction utilising PCA.
