Amity Centre for Liver Research inaugurated at Amity University on the occasion of “National Cancer Awareness Day”

 

Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida campus inaugurated Amity Centre for Liver Research on the occasion of “National Cancer Awareness Day”. To mark the occasion, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), Amity University Uttar Pradesh, also organized a Symposium on the theme “Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Liver Diseases”.

 

Speaking during the Inauguration of Amity Centre for Liver Research, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science and Technology Innovation Foundation, averred, “Amity is extremely delighted to inaugurate the Amity Centre for Liver research on the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day, which will foster research and development in the area of Liver Research and aims to cure, prevent, diagnose and successfully treat Liver Cancer. Scientific Social Responsibility is of utmost priority at Amity and it is only by serving the society that scientific development can take place. Liver cancer is the second most fatal diseases in India after cardio-vascular disease, therefore, one must adopt a healthy lifestyle and take good care of their physical and mental well-being. Also, early diagnosis goes a long way in curing cancer, and one should not get disheartened if one has cancer. Counselling, affordable and accessible treatment for all, large-scale screenings and psychotherapy can be very helpful in the treatment of the disease.”

 

Highlighting the significance of National Cancer Awareness Day, Dr. B.C Das, Director, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), stated, “National Cancer Awareness Day is observed annually on 7th November to raise awareness about cancer. The date was chosen as it coincides with the Birth Anniversary of Nobel laureate Marie Curie, who was born on this date in 1867 and whose works led to the development of radiotherapy to treat cancer.  Liver is the most vital organ of the human body and therefore it is crucial that one must take care of the liver by avoiding alcohol consumption, which is one of the most common causes of liver cancer and ensuring a healthy routine, including a healthy diet and regular exercise.”

 

During the One-day Programme, various insightful Technical Sessions on “Liver regeneration and Liver Failure”,β-catenin and HCC: Imagining a road to precision medicine”, "Biologicals and Immunotherapies for Metastatic Diseases", “An update on Hepatocellular Carcinoma and pre-clinical research models” and “Role of extracellular matrix (ECM) in liver disease” by renowned experts, were also conducted amongst others.
