Workshop on “Scaling of the Textile motif”

Workshop on “Scaling of the Textile motif”

Amity School of Fashion Design and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior has conducted a workshop on ‘Scaling of Textile motif ‘on Friday, 17th December 2021 at 10:00hrs. The size of a motif is significant in Textile Design. Keeping in mind the Principle of Proportions in Designing, one should consider the size of a motif in respect to the ensemble, it's scaling up and down size-wise, or its arrangement in various repeat pattern designs. The technique was made understood with a practical demo & practice session under the guidance of Mr Purujit Chatterjee, Training Specialist, ASFDT, AUMP.
In this workshop special focus was given on the technique of scaling a design motif manually.
All students have selected a motif that had been transferred to the paper. Then it has been boxed in grids, keeping the grid count preferably in whole numbers to make the calculation convenient. Then keeping the ground count intact, we have diminished the dimensions of the grid, hence, reducing the size of the box in which the motif has been outlined. Then, following the position of the grid fragments of the original motif, it is drawn within the reduced grids, thus scaling down the entire motif.
The students have learned how to scale up and down a motif as required for a design layout.
