“AIR POLLUTION ASSESSMENT FOR LUCKNOW: WAY FORWARD ACTION PLAN”

 Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the climate or to materials. Air pollution may cause diseases, allergies and even death to humans; it may also cause harm to other living organisms such as animals and food crops, and may damage the natural or built environment.

Dr. B. Sreekanth delivered talk on “Air Pollution Assessment for Lucknow: Way Forward Action Plan”. He firstly discussed the comparison of air quality between different area, urban and rural, and found more air pollution in urban area. Then he talked about the different trend of urban growth in Lucknow, air pollution modeling for vehicular sources over Lucknow and their harmful impact on air and its resolution. He discussed about the pre monsoon & post monsoon effect on air pollution then comparison between combustion sources (PM 2.5) & non combustion sources (PM 10) in Lucknow city and in last he ended the session with source identification and how we can control air pollution.

 It was a successful and informative lecture delivered by the guest speaker Dr. B. Sreekanth, Scientist (Environmental Toxicology), CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow. He also gave the opportunity to the students of Amity University to do their NTCC projects with him on air pollution in CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow. Prof. (Dr.) Asita Kulshreshtha (Head of the Institution), chaired the session. Dr. Upasana Yadav organized the guest lecture. A good number of students and faculties attended the guest lecture.
