Dr. Viswajanani Sattigeri, Director & Distinguished Scientist, CSIR- Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) visits Amity University

Dr. Viswajanani Sattigeri, Director & Distinguished Scientist, CSIR- Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) visited Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida Campus to deliver a Talk on TKDL and have discussions on joint collaborative Research.

Providing information about Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), Dr. Viswajanani Sattigeri, Director TKDL & Distinguished Scientist CSIR, averred, “The Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) is a pioneering initiative of India, under the joint collaboration of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), to prevent exploitation and to protect Indian traditional knowledge at Patent Offices worldwide. Traditional Knowledge (TK) is a valuable yet vulnerable asset to indigenous and local communities who depend on TK for their livelihood. TKDL technology integrates diverse disciplines such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Yoga, and languages such as Sanskrit, Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Tamil, English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, and traditional knowledge with modern science & modern medicine. Currently, TKDL contains information from books of Indian Systems of Medicine, which are available in open domain and can be sourced by any individual or organization at national or international level.”

 

Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President ASTIF stated, “Research and innovation is the major focus area at Amity and Technology Transfer and Patent Filing have been expanding the landscape of research and innovation at Amity. We would be glad to work closely with TKDL, under the visionary guidance of Dr. Sattigeri, to protect the patents filed by Amity scientists so that they cannot be misused by any other person/organization.”

 

Welcoming the guest, Dr. B. K. Murthy, Dean (Translational Research and Entrepreneurship Development) Science, Engineering and Technology, said, “We are extremely delighted to host Dr. Viswajanani Sattigeri, Director TKDL, at our campus. Amity University has an edge with over 400 patents in Health and Allied Sciences. We look forward to collaborating with TKDL so that our Intellectual Property can be protected from threats, specially in the area of Indian medicine.

 

On this occasion, Dr. Sunil K. Khatri, Dean (Research, Innovation and Extension Activities of AUUP) & Dy. DG, AFSTIA, presented an overview of Amity University and its research initiatives. During the visit, Dr. Sattigeri visited the high-tech laboratories of Amity University and met the distinguished scientists.
