“Workshop on Immunopharmacology” held at Amity University
Amity Centre for Translational Research, Amity University Noida campus, organized a Workshop on Immunopharmacology on the theme, “Advances in Cancer and Cancer Immunotherapy”. The workshop aimed at delving deep into preclinical and clinical models of tumors, identify detection and treatment modalities for various refractory cancers and discuss various modalities, for the upliftment of the healthcare sector for developing cancer directed interventions.
The workshop was attended by more than 100 participants including students pursuing postgraduate degrees such as MSc, M Pharm, PharmD, MD, MS and MCh and Research Scholars in any discipline of biological sciences, from Jamia Millia, Delhi University, Manipal University and other prestigious institutions.
Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Session, Chief Guest, Dr. Chandrasekhar Ranga, Joint Drugs Controller India, averred, “In the recent past more than 50% of the drugs developed are Biologics, which are medications derived from living organisms, such as proteins and genes. There is a huge need and demand for these drugs, specially in the area of immunology and anti-inflammatory drugs are the largest category of drugs. Immunopharmacology plays a key role in Oncology, and it is an area where the latest drugs are being developed. In the next few years, India will become the largest producer of these drugs since the demand for these drugs is increasing rapidly. Industry-academia collaboration is essential in drug discovery and development so that new drugs can be developed which will help in curing different kinds of diseases. In addition, safety and efficacy of drugs is extremely crucial since the lives of patients depends on these drugs.”
Highlighting the significance of the Conference, Prof. B.C. Das, Chairman, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), said, “The workshop will have strong focus on cancer immunopharmacology, which is an emerging area of Research and has tremendous potential for catering medical need for cancer patients. The participants will certainly be benefitted by the participation of national and international experts of Tumor Immunologists. The major topics which will be covered during the workshop include challenges in Chemo/Radiotherapies, cancer vaccines, traditional and alternative medicine in cancer therapy and Translational Cancer Research.”
Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, said, “The conference will provide a forum for physicians and scientists to share their views and experiences in designing new immune – pharmaceuticals against cancers, potentially leading to collaboration among various national and international laboratories. It also aims to establish equitable collaboration with various national and international R&D labs and hospitals to conduct translational and clinical studies important for validating new pharmaceuticals against cancer.”
During the one-day Workshop, Technical Sessions on themes such as “Applied Immunopharmacology: Challenges and Perspectives”, “Hands on Training on immune Cell and Isolation and their Functional Analysis” and “Immune Pharmaceuticals: Immunology meets Pharmacology”, were also organized.
