Amity University Punjab, in Collaboration with NASI and SPSTI, Hosts Inaugural Lecture of Popular Science Series Featuring Padma Bhushan Awardee Prof. K.K. Talwar
Amity University Punjab, Mohali, in collaboration with the Chandigarh Chapter of NASI and the Society for Promotion of Science and Technology in India, organized a Popular Science Lecture Series. These lectures are part of NASI’s ‘Science-Society Programmes, and aim to highlight the societal benefits of science and innovation. The inaugural lecture was delivered by Padma Bhushan awardee Prof. K. K. Talwar, an eminent cardiologist and Chairman of PSRI Heart Institute, New Delhi, took place on 19th September 2024. Prof. R.K. Kohli, Vice-Chancellor of Amity University Punjab, welcomed the guests and introduced the series, which will feature 12 lectures, one every alternate Thursday. Prof. Arun Grover, Former Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University and Vice President of SPSTI, emphasized the importance of research and innovation. Prof. K.K. Bhasin, Secretary of the Chandigarh Chapter of NASI, introduced Prof. Talwar, who spoke on “Medical Innovation / Research - Where Do We Stand?”. He discussed the use of endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) for diagnosing tropical heart muscle diseases, immunosuppressive therapy for myocardial dysfunction, and automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy for heart failure. The lecture concluded with a call for collaborative research and a vote of thanks by Dr. Vishal Agrawal. The event was attended by several eminent personalities, including Mr. Dharamvir, President of SPSTI, and Prof. Keya Dharamvir of Panjab University, along with students, faculty, of Amity University Punjab, nearby institutions and members of SPSTI and NASI.
