On December 6, 2022, at Citizen Hospital in Gurgaon, Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology Amity University Haryana, hosted an awareness programme to recognise International Day for People with Disabilities. Dr. Mustafa Nadeem Kirmani, an associate professor, Dr. Mehfooz Ahmed, an assistant professor-II, Ms. Meenakshi, Ms. Shirley Raj, and Dr. Amita Puri, the director of the Optimus Centre at Citizen Hospital Gurugram, participated in the event and made major contributions.
The following topics were covered by M. Phil trainees. Overviews of disabilities, theories of disabilities, drug misuse in disabilities, suicide among the disabled, and employment and disabilities were all topics discussed in the session. during Covid-19, disabled Mental illness in people with disabilities, individual, family, and community intervention, rights of people with disabilities, marriage, and carer concerns, etc. Additionally, they discussed their thoughts and experiences dealing with the handicapped community. In addition, the criminalist performed the role-playing exercise to comprehend the problems faced by disabled people. The show also emphasised community-wide initiatives for early disability detection and prevention. The current situation was analysed from the standpoint of social psychology. The curriculum placed a strong emphasis on the function that practical and community-focused elements play.
Participants learnt the value of early intervention and stigma reduction for the impaired population.
