One-day training program on Human Rights sponsored by National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi

Amity Academic Staff College, Amity University Haryana organized a one-day training program on Human Rights sponsored by National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi. The event was graced with some excellent speakers Prof. (Dr) Usha Tandon, Dean, Faculty of Law, and Head, Department of Law, University of Delhi, Ms. Geeta Luthra, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India, Dr Daisy Alexander, HOD, School of Law, CHRIST University, Pune, Prof. PB Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Haryana. The event held on 3rd March 2022.

Training on human rights not only means understanding the principles of human equality and dignity and the commitment to respect and protect the rights but using it meaningfully and practically in a positive way in our day-to-day life.

As part of the inaugural session, Dr. Sanjna Vij, Program Director, Amity Academic Staff College, AUH, gave an introduction on the program and walked through the schedule for the training program.

Dr Tandon began the first technical session by sharing her belief that participants have some basic understandings of the Human Rights. Dr Tandon emphasized on the need of training to sensitize people to create awareness among the people.

Ms Luthra talked about poverty, overpopulation and illiteracy. Ms Luthra began her speech by recalling her visit to Swami Sivananda’s Ashram in U K, who was in need of some legal aid at that time. When Ms Luthra came back to India, she found that the requirement of legal aid was growing in Delhi and other parts of India.

Dr. Daisy Alexander began the session by sharing a video with the attendees. The title of this video was ‘Path to Dignity: Power of Human Rights Education’ and it emphasized upon the deprivation quality education rights of children belonging to backward areas of Kerala especially the female children. She further threw light upon the Human Rights Principle and how human rights are universal, inalienable and indivisible.

Prof. P.B. Sharma began the session by emphasizing the growing importance of human rights in modern technological era.  He further stressed that how science has impacted our society in a detrimental way by creating an economical divide and suppressing of people’s rights. If society performs its duties with full dignity and responsivity then it is then the question of human rights infringement will never arise. Right of good health can be ensured by maintaining a healthy environment. Technology requires responsible human behaviour and responsible global citizenship therefore must not fall short of care and caution and hinder somebody’s rights.

In the last Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr Sanjna Vij Program Director, Amity Academic Staff College, Amity University Haryana.
