Amity School of Engineering & Technology (ASET), Amity University Haryana (AUH) organized its First National Virtual Conference on “Advancements & Modern Innovations in Engineering and Technology (AMIET-2020)” on the auspicious occasion of India’s Engineers’ Day i.e. 15th of September, 2020. The conference was technically sponsored by the Gurugram Chapter of the Computer Society of India (CSI). The AMIET-2020 was conceptualized and materialized by the organizing chair Prof. (Dr.) S. N. Sridhara, Director (ASET) under the guidance and motivation of the patrons of the conference, namely, Hon’ble Founder President Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. Aseem K. Chauhan, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P. B. Sharma, Hon’ble Deputy-Vice-Chancellor Maj. Gen. B. S. Suhag (Retd.) and Hon’ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee. It was one of many initiatives taken by ASET towards fulfilling the vision of Hon’ble Founder President Hon’ble Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan Sir and Hon’ble Chancellor of Amity University Haryana Dr. Aseem Chauhan Sir about making India as a knowledge superpower.

The objective of AMIET-2020 was to facilitate an interactive platform and discussion forum for scholars, academicians, researchers and industry stakeholders to share and exchange ideas, novel researches and innovative technological solutions towards the mitigation of various conventional problems of the present world. AMIET-2020 was the first of the efforts to virtually bring together researchers, intellectuals and experts from various domains of Engineering and Technology while embracing the social distancing recommendations and considering the imposed restrictions on travel during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The inaugural session of the conference started with the virtual but customary lightening of the Lamp of Innovation, to pay tribute to the Goddess Saraswati; the goddess of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom, and learning. It was followed by the welcome address, delivered by the Organizing Chair Prof. (Dr.) S. N. Sridhara, Director ASET & AIIT, AUH. He introduced the conference to the delegates, participants, attendees and audience, welcome and thanked everyone for their presence and participation. He discussed the importance of the day, i.e., 15th of September, 2020 and highlighted the significance on the role of such conferences in achieving academic excellence by all stakeholders. He announced the objectives of the conference and emphasized on the need, necessity and significance of engaging in meaningful research and contributing towards achieving innovative solutions for contemporary issues.

In his address, he congratulated Amity School of Engineering and Technology for organizing AMIET-2020 and welcomed all dignitaries, faculty members, students, scholars and participants. He shared the importance of the day in Indian history and highlighted on the need of continuous advancements in the field of science and technology. He stressed upon the importance and the role of knowledge sharing, learning, research and innovation and capacity building in the development of a nation. He deliberated upon the ways in which the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the means of the world in all aspects and how important it is to utilize science and technology for the healing and betterment of the world. He emphasized on the multifaceted development needed in the crucial domains of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, robotics, industry 4.0, industry 5.0, solar energy, environmental and sustainable evolution, indoor and outdoor air quality, etc. for the India and the world to emerge out of these unprecedented times.

Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee graced the gathering with her charming and positive personality. She welcomed everyone and congratulated the Organizing Chair and all concerned for successfully materializing such an important forum. She paid tribute to Sir Visvesvaraya and remembered his monumental contribution in revolutionizing the technological front of India. She discussed about the various sustainable development goals and the importance of the contribution of each and every person. She highlighted on how collaborative efforts can help in achieving these goals and how conferences such as AMIET-2020 play a significant role in promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative research. She emphasized the need of vitalizing researchers and young minds in education and aptly congratulated all authors and participants on their innovative dreams.

AMIET-2020 was technically sponsored by the Gurugram chapter of the Computer Society of India (CSI). Eminent scientist and academicians from CSI and leading education institution graced the conference with their presence. Shri R. K. Vyas, President CSI, Dr. Brijesh Kumar, Head, CSI, Gurugram Chapter and Prof. A. K. Nayak, Immediate Past President, CSI, addressed the gathering and congratulated Amity fraternity for organizing AMIET-2020. The eminent speakers discussed and highlighted the paradigm shift that has brought upon by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. They deliberated upon the increasing necessity of including hybrid modes of teaching and learning practices to cope up with imposed requirements.
Dr. Arun K. Tripathi, Director General, National Institute of Solar Energy, New Delhi
Dr. Tripathi graced the conference with his presence and delivered the keynote address. He initiated his address by congratulating everyone on the auspicious occasion of Engineer’s Day. He mentioned how important it is to dream and how dreaming leads to motivation and further to innovation. He highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary research and how the boundaries of engineering domains are disappearing.
He emphasized on role of planning, development and implementation of solar power plant installations, Renewable energy generations, energy efficient green buildings, waste management and public awareness in the country. He delivered an informative presentation on how the solar industry has combined innovation with economic development, sectoral transformations and self-reliant productive strategy of human community.
