Inferential Statistics, Applying SPSS

Amity College of Nursing, Amity University Haryana organized a workshop on the topic Inferential Statistics, Application of SPSS on 21st December 2020, online through MS teams. The workshop was started around 9.50am by the organizing secretary, Dr. Smriti Arora. Professor, Amity College of Nursing.

The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. A. Tamil Selvi, Principal, Amity College of nursing who addressed the participants and welcomed the resource persons. The workshop consisted of mainly 3 sessions.

The first session dealt with independent and dependent t test taken by Dr. Muthuvenkatachalam S, Associate Professor CON, AIIMS. In this session, the resource person explained about the significance of t test, types of t test and also the application of independent and paired t test. Concurrently, a demonstration of the whole process of applying both the types of t test was done through the MS Teams. After that the floor was open to discussion in which the participant?s questions were answered by the resource person.

The next session was taken by Prof. (Dr.) Hemant Sharma from Amity Business School, AUH on the topics, Correlation (r) and one way ANOVA in which sir has explained in detail about the Karl Pearson?s correlation coefficient and also how to check the normality of a data set. The various circumstances in which different statistical tests need to be used were also explained in this session. The session was followed by a discussion of the queries of the participants.

The third session was taken by Dr. Smriti Arora on Chi-square test and Fisher Exact test. Mam has explained about the context where the various test need to be used such as chi square test fisher exact and Mann Whitney U test. Also it was explained on how to apply these test through SPSS.

A total of 284 participants registered for the workshop which included the faculty, PhD scholars graduate and undergraduate nursing students from various institutions from different parts of the country.

Towards the end of the event, a feedback of the workshop was taken from the participants through online mode after which the participants would be provided with the certificates.

The workshop was found to be useful and informative by the majority of the participants and many have requested for arranging other related workshops in the future. Dr. Smriti, the organizingsecretary and Dr. A Tamil Selvi, Principal, Amity College of Nursing, thanked all the participants and the resource persons who joined the workshop. The session came to an end by 1pm.
