The Amity School of Hospitality (ASH) conducted ‘Guest Lecture’ on topic ‘Introduction & Exposure to Tourism & Hospitality Industry’ on 12 October 2020 . The guest speaker/resource person was Ms. Nidhi Bansal, CEO of 'India City Walks' & 'India with Locals'.
The guest speaker mentioned that both the tourism & hospitality industries, nowadays, has become one of the largest and essential industries that contribute majorly to growth & development of any country’s economy; tourism is a combination of activities, services & companies that provides you traveling experience with transportation, accommodation, food, entertainment and attractions; hospitality is how well the community accepts you and their attitude towards you which make you feel safe and welcome.
The interaction between the host and the guest was on majorly on etiquettes and respect; Speaker mentioned that tourism is tasked with managing a destination’s details and resources while hospitality manages and facilitates the provisions of food, accommodation, and socialisation for tourists; both tourism and hospitality industries complement each other, for example, a tourist needs tickets for travelling (tourism) and a place like hotel to stay in and perhaps a restaurant to eat in (hospitality); tourism and hospitality industries is claimed to be the world’s largest industries by World Tourism Organization (WTO) with turnover of $3 trillion dollars. He explained that both tourism & hospitality industries are significant sources of foreign exchange; tourism & hospitality industries provide massive employment to people all over the globe; tourism industry offers job opportunities in national parks, museums, ancient monuments, travel agencies, tour companies, govt. embassies etc. There was a crisp question-answer round at the end of the guest lecture.
