2- Day webinar on Disaster Management and Mitigation

event

Welcome Address by Dr. Naveen B P, HoD, Dept. of Civil Engineering, ASET

Amity School of Engineering and Technology organized 2- day webinar on Disaster Management and Mitigation By Dr Jog Bhatai, Ex-Assistant Commandant (DSP)  in ITB Police , Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh and Dr. G. Venkateshan, Assistant Professor, University College of Engineering, Tiruchirapalli, BIT Campus, Anna University on 3rd and 4th September 2020. In two days workshop 130 students participated from engineering department.

Dr. Jog Bhatai, Ex-Assistant Commandant (DSP)  in ITB Police , Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh  delivered his talk on Disaster Response Management for construction of New India. He mentioned that  the major challenge in front of the civil engineering community today are to ensure the safety of human lives & safety  of new and existing structures against natural and man-made hazards. For practical reasons, the new approaches within the framework of green engineering and the approaches to enhance the safety of structures should not relinquish economic efficiency and viability.

Dr. G. Venkateshan, Assistant Professor, University College of Engineering, Tiruchirapalli, BIT Campus, Anna University delivered his talk on  Ensuring Safety During Landfill Design.

This brainstorming session was to identify specific areas in Civil Engineering and modalities to disseminate this information and motivate researchers in this and allied fields in institutes spread across the country to get involved in this initiative. To achieve this, various aspects of civil engineering such as material behaviour, structural behaviour, construction practice, environmental considerations, geotechnical aspects, etc. must be appropriately considered. This means that all aspects of civil engineering must go hand-in-hand. Additionally, good emergency preparedness and disaster management are essential to mitigate the consequences of accidental hazards. Given the recent advances in the various fields of Civil engineering and the methods to enhance the safety of structures against hazards, this brainstorming series aims at bringing together professional, students, and faculty members and offers an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas, as well as to showcase the results of their research efforts.

  • The main outcome of the workshop is to help the students understand the various aspects of civil engineering such as Disaster Management, Mitigation, Preparedness, Recovery & Response.
  • understand the Landfill failures due to slope stability & about clay liner design for the landfill.
  • To provide knowledge and skills to students on how to approach different Civil Engineering challenges. This knowledge will definitely give them an edge in interviews after their graduation or post-graduation.

The session ended with the question answer round and a vote of thanks by Dr. Naveen BP, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Civil Engineering ASET, Amity University Haryana.
