Guest Lecture on ‘The Changing Role of Radio in the Current Times’

Amity School of Communication organised an Industry Expert Lecture on The Changing Role of Radio in the Current Times conducted by renowned Radio Jockey, Ms. Divya Vasudev, Radio City, 91.1 FM on 16th October, 2020. Owing to the pandemic, the symposium was organised on virtual platform and was attended by around 65 participants.

Ms. Divya, is a media person, Radio Jockey, Journalist and a versatile personality. Been a radio Jockey for over Ten years, she has led some award winning campaigns on radio like– New York Radio award, Indian Radio Forum award, Golden mikes for Padyatra on menstruation, Dil deke dekho on organ donation etc. She has also received the Dr Radha Krishnan National media award for contributing to media and entertainment and is a TedX speaker and used the platform to let people know how powerful the medium of Radio is.

She gave an overview of the Radio as an Industry in India and abroad. She talked about the importance of having a basic training in the area of speech renunciation, voice modulation and the basics of language. She emphasised on the importance of having good communication skills in Broadcast journalism and its role in enhancing the confidence of the broadcaster.

She also talked about the changing role of Radio in the current times, especially during lockdown and Pandemic, and its influence on resolving social issues. She advised the young broadcasters to be very particular while preparing any assignment and not letting their personal biases be reflected in their scripts.

She also talked about how to keep the interest of listeners alive in your show and make it more relevant for them personally. She said, that being an intimate and informal medium Radio has the Power to bring a change in the psyche of the people in an entertaining way.

She emphazied that presentation must aim at understanding problems around us and finding possible solutions while having one-to-one conversation with your listeners. The entire session was coordinated and moderated by Dr. Preeti Singh, Asst. Professor, ASCO and students took a very keen interest in discussing their queries during Q and A Session with RJ Divya.
