A Competition on “Fundamental Rights: A Shield for Marginalised or A Tool for the Powerful” on 24th January 2025
A Competition on “Fundamental Rights: A Shield for Marginalised or A Tool for the Powerful” on 24th January 2025. The discussion aimed to assess the practical application of these rights for economically disadvantaged groups, minorities, and other vulnerable sections, and to provoke thought about the gaps in realizing constitutional promises for all citizens.
The debate focused on a critical examination of the true accessibility and implementation of fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India, particularly for marginalized communities. The central question addressed whether these rights, designed to protect equality and justice, are effectively serving the needs of vulnerable groups, or if they have been disproportionately utilized by the powerful sections of society.
The debate successfully highlighted the complex dynamics surrounding the implementation of fundamental rights in India. Speakers delved into the issue of how rights like equality, freedom of speech, and personal liberty are often inaccessible or inadequately protected for marginalized communities.
