Industry Expert Session on ‘Media Reporting in the times of Pandemic’

Amity School of Communication organized an industry expert session on ‘Media Reporting in the times of Pandemic’ on 4th of Sep., 2021. The session was conducted by Ms.Sarvapriya Sangwanis a renowned journalist, popular in the field of grass root reporting.She is currently working with BBC as a YouTube editor for Indian languages. Ms. Sangwan is best known for her reporting during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections along with famous
NDTV journalist, Mr. Ravish Kumar.The objective of the session was to introduce the students of Journalism and Mass Communication with renowned industry experts and providing them with an opportunity to know and analyze the nuances of Media reporting especially during the times of Covid-19 Pandemic.

During the session, Ms. Sarvapriya Sangwan interacted with the students and shared her thoughts, experience and her journey with them. She spoke about the challenges faced by the media persons during the pandemic in collecting, validating, preparing and analyzing the news reports. Ms. Sangwan also raised her concerns towards the decreasing number of students in this field, their fears and employment challenges, and the problem of fake news
and sources attribution. She briefed the students about the required skillset and things they need to keep in mind while reporting. ‘Journalism is a continuous learning process’, with these words Ms. Sarvapriya Sangwan concluded her talk. The session was begun with the welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Manish Verma, Director, Amity School of Communication and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pooja Rana. The entire session
was coordinated and moderated by Dr. Preeti Singh.
