Amity Law School Organized guest lecture on International Court of Justice on 30th April 2021.
The main objective of the lecture was to impart knowledge on historical development of ICJ through Permanent Court of Arbitration to Permanent Court of International Justice and then to the establishment of the International Court of Justice.
Mr Anupam Sharan , Vice President, Connesso India discussed about the brief history of the United Nations (UN) and its journey from the League of Nations. He highlighted the reasons for the failure of the League. He mentioned that ICJ is the chief judicial organ for the UN and discussed its importance in the world community.
Mr Sharan elaborated upon procedure, jurisdiction, bench and cost aspects of ICJ. Further tenure of Judges, their appointment and retirement procedures were discussed. He explained the general customary and conventional laws followed by ICJ along with the UN Charter & Statute of ICJ. Mr Anupam Sharan shared that nearly 163 cases have been successfully concluded by the ICJ to date and then he elucidated a few of these cases, to name - Corfu Channel Case, Nicaragua Case and those cases adjudicated by ICJ in which India had been a party. Throughout the Lecture, Mr Anupam Sharan maintained the interest of the attendees by indulging them in several questions and answers. At the end of the Lecture, Mr Sharan addressed the queries from students.
The Expert Lecture was concluded with a Vote of Thanks, proposed by Maj. Gen. PK Sharma (Retd.), Professor & Director Amity Law School, Dean Faculty of Law, who thanked Mr Anupam Sharan for taking two days out of his busy schedule and sharing such elaborate information with the participants. Maj. Gen. Sharma mentioned that students are going greatly benefited from these lectures which were elaborated through PPTs.
