Amity Medical School Organized a webinar on Girl Survival in India on 19th May 2020. It was graced by Dr. Vaibhav Pathak, State specialist at Uttar Pradesh Technical Support Unit with more than a decade of experience in the field of female feticide. The webinar received over 90 students and faculties registrations.
The session began with general myths that people have regarding the topic of girl survival. It then moved on to a very gripping history and evolution of this concept and the heightened awareness in today’s time.
Dr. Pathak explained some glaring data by the government and non-governmental organizations which was an eye-opener for one and all showing the drastic change in the sex ratio along these years.
The session had very interesting case studies from across India which were discussed in detail. That gave a sense of awareness among the participants and made them understand the gravity of the situation and how deeply it was intricate in society.
The session gave a detailed description of the methods used by people for sex selection and eventually using those techniques adversely for infanticide. The burning question of the impact on the society was discussed in detail and was made an interactive session by encouraging the participants to ask questions.
