FDP on Foreign Language Teaching: Methods & Approaches with special reference to Communicative Approach

Amity School of Languages organized a one day Faculty Development Programme-cum-Lecture on “Foreign Language Teaching: Methods & Approaches with Special Reference to Communicative Approach” for foreign language teaching faculties and the students of B. A. (H) French.

The objective of the FDP was to enrich the knowledge of the faculty scholars on emerging ideas and trends in the field of methodology of teaching/learning languages and cultures in multilingual context. 

The guest speaker Dr. Md. Faizullah Khan, Assistant Professor, Centre for European & Latin American Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi spoke on the need to learn foreign languages, a proof of interaction among different nations. The origins of modern western language education started in the study and teaching of Latin in the 16th century. As the communication among continents and countries has increased, the learning and teaching practices have changed because the language plays a major role in international communication. He added. Grammar Translation Method, the Direct method, Audio - Lingual Method, Audio-Visual Methods, and Communicative Methods were also discussed.

This FDP has been very productive in tackling the approaches of language teaching and task design that is able to foster students’ skills, critical thinking and competencies for interlingual communication.
