Amity University Gurugram organized Panel Discussion on Education 2025: Reimagining Future Schools
'When we reimagine education, we must imagine it for everyone'
Due to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic we as a nation face hard challenges that how it disrupted society, especially those in the informal sector, by changing their livelihood, economy and everyday life. There are people in our country, who not only can’t afford a computer at home, don’t have a laptop or don’t even necessarily have a mobile phone, and Under NEP, we have set up the ambitious GER 100% for secondary education by 2030
This is the right time to brainstorm what we need to do to make futuristic schools.
Taking the agenda forward, Mr. Sachin Juneja, Director, Market Promotions moderated the session by welcoming all the esteemed panelist and initiate the conversation by presenting on ground scenario of students during COVID-19 situation.
In opening remarks, Dr Vikas Madhukar, Dy. Pro- Vice Chancellor, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Amity University Gurugram emphasized on blended learning model, technology adoption and reforms in assessments. He also highlighted the focus on excellence for every child by helping them building skills and awareness that go beyond what they need simply to find work. He also suggested that schools should work on the mechanism on student’s mindset, their aspiration, their dreams. In his concluding remarks he shared insights of Amity Gurugram’s academic pedagogy which is choice-based credit system providing flexible curriculum in which student has an open to choose a minor track from over 50+ disciplines.
Dr. Priti Ojha, Principal, Delhi International School, Dwarka shared her words of wisdom by explaining biggest challenge for teachers now is interacting with all students in online classes depriving them to provide personal attention to students. She also mentioned another important challenges faced by the schools like parents busy in their work, gadgets not available at home for online classes.
Ms. Abha Sadana, Principal, The Modern School ECNR citing the research reference stated that student of class 5th in rural area not able to read books of class 2nd properly. One of the major reasons is effective teacher training programs. She also gave examples like creating urban forest, doodling etc to provide real life exposure and development of critical thinking.
She also mentioned that Due to lockdown there is an anti-social mindset developed in Students and parents. She encouraged to use Mediation in classroom treated to be a good therapy to overcome anti-social mindset. She also gave examples of Sewa Projects in which students help the needy.
Dr. Sheetal Mann, Modern Convent School, Dwarka In line to the topic she said that the teachers are pyramid of education system So mental wellbeing of teachers is very important in present situation of lockdown. She also mentioned that We need to develop empathy in students to become a good leader and human being rather than make them a robot. Summarizing her discussion, She gave one word conclusive closure as to bring challenges with excitement.
Dr Priya Shrivastava, Principal, Euro International School, Sector -109, Gurugram, She rightly mentioned that the key area of innovation that help the next Generation to be a future learner is to involve the young people in every stage of the project, educating young girls and youth women in the field of technology especially internet, providing training and employment to the youth of this country.
Ms. Anuradha Govind, Principal, J M International School, Dwarka, Delhi mentioned that every student's strength should be appreciated. A lot of practical knowledge should be given to them through experiential learning concepts. She also emphasized on the starting entrepreneurship curriculum at school to encourage students to become job creators than job seekers. She emphasized that Parents' involvement is very important and crucial during their primary years.
