Amity Centre for Ocean-Atmospheric Science and Technology (ACOAST) & Amity Centre for Environmental Science and Health (ACESH), Amity University Haryana organized “Earth Day Celebration 2022 with Theme ‘Invest in our Planet” and Panel Discussion on ‘Emerging trends of Solid Waste Management for Clean and Green Economy and Sustainability” on 22nd April 2022.

The main objective of this webinar is to create awareness amongst students, faculties, and stakeholders about the ‘Emerging trends of Solid Waste Management for Clean and Green Economy and Sustainability’.All the speakers focused on the problems caused by untreated waste and its influence on human health and climate. In her talk by Dr. Smitha Ahuja presented that Haryana, Gurgaon generates 1400 MT MSW every day, 1100 MT reaches the landfill, and 300 MT lies dumped in the city or gets burnt. These wastes are creating Toxic chambers for adults as well as for children. The experts also highlighted some of possible solutions that can be achieved by working in unity.In the Panel Discussion, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, and Dr. Smitha Ahuja said that this is high time for the Government as well as Policy Makers to update the Byelaws in view of recent rapid changes in Science and Technology.  Dr. Sunil Kumar emphasized the economic processes for disposal of solid waste.  Prof. Devara explained about some results of Dissertation work carried out by the M.Tech. student of ACOAST/ACESH related to Bio-aerosol emissions from Municipal landfill sites in Bhandewadi and Anganwadi of Nagpur, and their health and radiation budget implications on climate change.  Prof. Thakur talked about the role and benefits of Nano Particle Technology in Green economy.  Dr. Sanjeev Sharma emphasized the role of warming/cooling potential and short- and long-lived Greenhouse Gases and their toxicity in wasteland and land-fill regions in the country.
