Workshop on X-Ray Diffraction Technique

Amity School of Applied Sciences , Department of Physics, Amity University Haryana organized a “National e-workshop on X-Ray Technique” on 24th September, 2020. At Amity University, we believe in making Our University an epitome of education, research and innovation and to cherish our achievements, every year at AUH, we celebrate Innovation Week.

The Main objective of the event is to provide information related to X-ray diffraction (XRD. It is an essential analytical technique to determine the structure and crystalline nature of materials under study. Hence, the analysis of X-ray diffraction data is of utmost importance. The scope of this workshop is firstly to acquaint participants with a fundamental. understanding of the theoretical basis as well as the practical applications of powder diffractometry followed by an online demonstration of XRD analysis techniques.

The event started with opening remarks and welcome address by Prof. A K Yadav (HoI, ASAS) and Prof. Preeti Thakur (HoD, Physics Depart. ASAS).

Prof. SK Sharma, JNU, Delhi, Professor and Director USIC, India, talked about the production of X-Rays and how these X-Rays Diffraction technique can be used for the characterization of material and Powder X-Ray Diffractometer and Diffractogram in detail. He also discussed about practical Aspects of Sample Preparation for XRD and Profile Fitting forQuantitative Analysis.

Dr. Bharti Singh, DTU, Delhi, Assistant Professor spoke on fundamentals of X-Ray Diffraction. She discussed about Peak Indexing, Calculation of Lattice Parameters, Estimating Crystallite Size from given data. She also talked about production and properties of X-rays: continuous and characteristic radiation, absorption, scatter diffractionand Lattice Strain.

Dr. R K Sharma, SNU, UP, Scientific Officer, India Talked about the online demonstration of X-Ray Diffraction Technique by Dr. R K Sharma, Scientific Officer, Dept. of Physics, Shiv Nadar University, U.P. HE conducted very elaborative online demonstration of the technique showing and discussing each and every part of the instrument. He gave a live sample run in the machine and showed how to operate the software and analysis the data. It was quite fascinating to corelate the theoretical principle and aspects with this experimental online demonstration.

Total 400 students participated in the workshop from applied science department . Overal  it was an very interesting workshop for all the students.
