National Seminar on Women’s Issues in India

Amity School of Liberal Arts organized a National Seminar on Women’s Issues in India on 5th March 2020. The Chief Resource Person of the Seminar was Prof. Kiran Devendra, Head, Department of History, ASLA. Prof. Pooja Rana, Amity School of Communication, AUH and Ms. Monica Yadav, Amity Law School, AUH were the Resource Persons for the National Seminar. Thematic Lecture on the ‘Legal Perspectives on Women’s Rights’ by Ms. Monica Yadav. She spoke at length about the legal provisions and how women must understand them in order to use them in the correct manner. After her insightful lecture, Prof. Pooja Rana spoke eloquently about ‘Women in the Media and Popular Culture.’ She spoke about the portrayal of women in advertisements, serials and movies, emphasizing the need to analyze the content shown and not accept everything as it is.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Kiran Devendra who emphasized the changing status of women in India and discussed the role of families and peer groups in women’s empowerment. Mr. Rangaswamy from BA (Hons) Political Science shared his thoughts on women’s issues and presented the student’s perspective on the theme. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Supriya Sanju, Assistant Professor, Amity School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies.
