  • Short Description

    Ph.D TITLE :- “New biosorbents for trace metal preconcentration” SUPERVISOR :- Prof. B.B. Prasad, Professor, Analytical division Department of Chemistry. Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, U.P. My Ph.D work lays emphasis on the development of chromatography column packing material based on algae ,which enjoys the advantage of being robust, recyclable, economic and free from usual complication associated with alga based column viz., algae clumping ,swelling and bleeding of sorbent .Two different algae used were Chlorella Vulgaris (unicellular green algae cultured in laboratory ) and Spirogyra ( multicellular green Algae obtain from nature ) which were immobilized on a stationary support (silica gel), invoking an ion exchange approach of “ Donnan equilibrium concept” , to obtain biosorbents called as “AlgaSORBs” of required stability and selectivity. These column packing materials selectively separate and preconcentrate the analyte (C
