Amity Institute of English Studies & Research (AIESR), Amity University Uttar Pradesh Noida Campus, organized a Panel Discussion on “Revamping the English Literature Curriculum”, with an aim to revise the curriculum by aligning it with emerging trends in the field as per the requirement of NEP2020, National Credit Framework (NCrF), and Viksit Bharat@2047.

Deliberating on the Topic, “Research and Pedagogic Possibilities in Memory Studies”, Dr. Avishek Parui, IIT Madras (Academia & Research), averred, “Memory Studies is an interdisciplinary field exploring how individuals, groups, and societies remember and represent the past. Research and pedagogic possibilities in memory studies are vast and diverse and some potential areas for research include collective memory and identity formation, trauma, memory, and recovery, cultural memory, politics, and social justice. The pedagogic possibilities include integrating oral histories and personal narratives into curricula, using memoirs, literature, and film to explore memory themes, designing memory-focused writing and storytelling workshops, developing digital archives and exhibitions and incorporating experiential learning and field trips to memory sites.”

Sharing his views on “Studying Linguistics: Are we adaptive enough in a changing world”, Dr. Somdev Kar, IIT Ropar, Member, AAB (Academia & Research), stated, “We need to study linguistics since we there are around 7000 languages spoken in India and we must know about these languages. Research in liguistics can be strengthened by introducing more PhD programs and maintaining a balance between skills and knowledge. There is a need shift the focus from high stake examinations towards more comprehensive and continuous evaluation, emphasis on gender balance in admissions to HEIs, linguistic empowerment of hearing-impaired population through teaching Indian Sign Language and effective use of technology-based education platforms such as DIKSHA, SWAYAM, NPTEL and Virtual Linguistic campus.”

Prof. Shantanu Ghosh, Director- Amity Institute of English Studies and Research, opined, “It is imperative to revamp the English Literature Curriculum in alignment with NEP 2020. Re-visioning literature and language teaching in the 21st century requires innovative approaches, technological integration, and a focus on diversity, critical thinking, and creativity. By embracing these changes, educators can create engaging, effective, and relevant learning experiences for students. Revamping the English Literature curriculum can be done by incorporating diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences to reflect the complexity of the modern world, updating the curriculum to include contemporary texts and authors, making literature more relatable and engaging, emphasizing critical thinking, analytical skills, and media literacy to prepare students for the digital age.”
