· International Mother Language Day (Matrabhasha Diwas) is celebrated on February 21st every year to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and to raise awareness about the importance of preserving mother languages. The day honour the sacrifice of students in Bangladesh who lost their lives in 1952 while advocating for the recognition of Bengali as an official language. It serves as a reminder of the need to protect and promote indigenous languages, which are essential for cultural identity, education, and social inclusion. By celebrating this day, we encourage multilingualism, foster unity in diversity, and ensure that future generations continue to value and use their mother tongues.
· Indian Folk Tales: India has a rich heritage of folk tales passed down through generations, reflecting its diverse cultures and traditions. Panchatantra and Jataka Tales teach moral values through engaging animal fables and Buddhist wisdom stories. Vikram and Betal narrates mysterious tales with ethical dilemmas, while Akbar-Birbaland Tenali Rama stories showcase intelligence and wit. Regional folk tales like Gopal Bhar from Bengal, Pabuji’s legend from Rajasthan, and Tejimola from Assam add to the variety. These stories impart lessons on wisdom, bravery, kindness, and justice. They continue to be cherished in Indian literature, oral traditions, and performances.
