Amity University Uttar Pradesh organized a Student Centric Programme to commemorate International Youth Day, National Anti-Ragging Day, wherein a“Pledge Taking Ceremony”, was held as part of “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA)”, launched on 15th August 2020 by the Govt. of India. The Pledge Taking Ceremony was led by Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Sr. Director, Amity Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (AFDD), wherein thousands of Amity students took a pledge against drug abuse.

Addressing the students, Mr. Ram Badan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, averred, “Drug addiction is increasing rapidly amongst the youth of our country and they are destroying their invaluable lives by indulging in such activities. Developing a disciplined life along with healthy habits is extremely important and in order to develop a good habit, ninety days are required, after which it becomes a part of your lifestyle. When a person takes drugs, not only that particular person, but their whole family suffers, therefore, youngsters must be compassionate, understand the pain and suffering of others and care for their parents and society. Students must dream big and focus on their future goals instead of falling prey to drug addiction.” He urged the youth to become good human beings and responsible citizens since the future our country depends upon the youth, and they are the ones who will contribute to Viksit Bharat@2047.

Sharing her views on the occasion, Dr. Shweta Khurana, Distt Tobacco Officer, “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA)”, stated, “Youth have the right to vote as young adults, however, they are not behaving as responsible adults. “Addiction” means doing something repeatedly over a period of time and a habit becomes addiction when it disrupts your daily life. The youth must get addicted to good things such as a healthy lifestyle, good values and make the right decisions in life.”

Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh asserted, “The youth are the ones who will contribute to nation building and unless they commit to themselves and take responsibility, nothing will change.  They must keep in mind what habits they are developing and how they are going to utilize their time in the best possible way. Amity students must engage in self-development and expand their horizons instead of wasting their precious time in unwanted activities. Amity will extend all its support to every student who wants to achieve their career goals and work for the betterment of the society.”

Mr Vineet Malhotra, Senior Consulting Editor and Prime Time Anchor at NewsX, said, “Youth must invest their time and energy on meaningful and constructive things rather than wasting it on drugs. This is the golden period of life which will never come back, therefore, the youth must be wise, utilize their time and become the best version of themselves.”

Dr. Sanjeev Bansal, Additional Pro Vice Chancellor Amity University Noida opined, “About 1/6th of the total population of the world is youth and the youth of a country play a crucial role in a country’s development, therefore, they must understand their power and responsibility and stick to the pledge, in not just words but in their actions as well.”

Also present on the occasion were Mr Praveen Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Noida, HOIs of various institutions and the students in large numbers. The Programme concluded with cultural performances by the students and a Panel Discussion with student participants.
