Geographic Information System (GIS) is a special system which is designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyse, manage, and present all types of geographical data on earth. GIS technology is an integrated database which has all the information like population characteristics, economic development opportunities, and vegetation types, maps etc.
The Department of Geoinformatics focuses on the acquisition, analysis, and application of geographic information system. It integrates spatial data technologies like GIS, remote sensing, and GPS to study Earth's surface and human-environment interactions. Students learn to manage and interpret spatial data, developing skills in mapping, spatial analysis, and geospatial modelling. The department prepares graduates for careers in urban planning, environmental management, disaster response, and various sectors requiring spatial data expertise, emphasizing the critical role of geospatial technology in modern problem-solving.
