One Day National Conference (Virtual) on Mobilities, Migration and Culture: Reflections in the World Literature

A virtual national conference titled "Mobilities, Migration and Culture: Reflections in the World Literature" was organized by the Amity Institute of English Studies & Research on 21st December 2020 from 08:45 am onwards. The conference intended to address the issues, concepts, theories, and challenges surrounding various types of mobilities and intra-/ inter- (trans)national migration in a world characterized by globalizing forces. Such elements have emphatic influence on cultures and people around the globe. Hence, the conference also related to the literatures of the world in which various types of migrations (forced and voluntary), movements and hybridizing factors found a remarkable reflection.

The event commenced with the welcome and introduction to the theme by Dr. Suraj Kumar Saw, convener of the conference. It followed by the speech of respected Assistant Director, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Tripathi, who stressed on the will to understand different cultures. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Kumar Jha, stressed on the need of research on migration and culture. The keynote speaker, Dr. Patricia Agupusi, School of International Service, American University, Washington DC, USA, elaborated upon various aspects that lead to cultural infusion. She gave an overview of tribal cultures of Africa and the impact of globalization on them that lead to cultural hybridity. Her brilliant lecture set the tone of the conference.

In the event, various participants from different parts of India presented papers on several aspects of migration and culture. Their presentation was followed by a lively discussion in the Q&A session among the participants, presenters and scholars which was beautifully conducted by the session Chair, Dr. Samira Sinha, Jagannath Nagar College, Ranchi, and the moderator Dr. Shayantani Banerjee from AIESR. The event concluded with expression of gratitude and the vote of thanks delivered by the Programme Coordinator, Dr. Shovona Choudhury, and Programme Leader, Mr. Abhay Ranjan, respectively. They expressed gratitude towards everyone’s cooperation in the successful completion of the conference.
