A two day MUN Conference was organized by Amity International School on 5th and 6th August 2013 on the school premises. Over 400 students from classes VIII to XII representing 104 countries participated in the event. Students from Class XI and XII held the coveted positions on the executive board. The prestigious position of Secretary General was held by the former Head boy, Harmeet Dhiman. The opening ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp and Durga Stuti dance performance by children of the primary section.
The Respected Principal Mam held the audience engaged with her inspiring speech wherein she motivated the students to be global leaders and aim for universal brotherhood of mankind.
Amity MUN 2013, witnessed some very impressive discussions on global issues. The participants were divided into six committees :
- The Disarmament and International Security
- United Nations Environment program
- UNESCO
- North Atlantic Treaty Organization
- Human Rights Council
- Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries
Student delegates shared their opinions on sensitive issues of international and national relevance such as -
- Arms Trafficking and Terrorism
- Carbon Dioxide accountability Measures
- Arbitrary Detention and Extra-Judicial Killings
- Impact of economic crises and political conflicts on oil investments
- Post 2014 withdrawal from Afghanistan
- Equal access to women for education
The event was graced by Dr (Prof) R. C Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Haryana and Mr. Lon McDaniel, Principal Amity Global School, Gurgaon. Dr. Sharma encouraged and appreciated efforts of students and faculty in fostering intercultural understanding and socio political sensitivity among the youth. He also lauded the efforts of our dynamic Principal Mam, Ms Arti Chopra in making the event a successful intellectual interaction.
