Panel Discussion on New Criminal Laws
Amity Law School and Student Welfare Department jointly organized a Panel Discussion on New Criminal Laws on 1 July 2024. The discussion focused on the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
The panelist, Shri Ajay Kumar Sinha, Superintendent of Police, Investigation Training School, Ranchi mentioned the basic responsibilities of police within their strength and resources. He said that the three newly introduced laws will extend help to common people. Shri C.B Singh, Principal Judge, Family Court, Ranchi (Retd.) highlighted some weak points in the new criminal laws. The third panelist, Shri Awanish Ranjan Mishra, Advocate, Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi, Central Government Counsel informed that the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, 1860 (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872 (IEA) have been replaced by the new criminal laws.
Dr. Ajit Kumar Pandey, Dean (Academics), Amity University Jharkhand, Dr. B.S Yadav, Dean, Amity Law School, Amity University Jharkhand along with other faculty members also joined the panel discussion.
