Objectives of this Project:

The objective of the Project is to develop a technology which is entirely based on Image processing algorithms for automatic segmentation, analysis and watermarking of retinal images which will aid in diagnosis of retinal diseases (Glaucoma & Diabetic Retinopathy) and Tele-ophthalmology applications.

  • The overall objectives are given below:
    • Develop computer aided system & software for automatic segmentation and analysis of Medical fundus images including retina, optic disc and macula.
    • Develop software for automatic Identification of the Retinal image if it has signs of Diabetic Retinopathy. (Diabetic retinopathy is a serious disease causing incurable blindness)
      • Extraction of retinal abnormalities like microaneurysms, hemorrhages, exudates.
      • Labeling of blood vessels, microaneurysms, hemorrhages and exudates.
      • Classification into different levels of diabetic retinopathy.
    • Develop Software for automatic Identification of the Retinal Image if it has the signs of Glaucoma. (Glaucoma is a serious disease causing incurable blindness)
      • Extraction of the Optic nerve head (ONH).
      • Qualitative (e.g. Optic disc hemorrhages) and quantitative (e.g. Optic disk size, Optic Cup/Disk ratio) evaluation of Optic nerve head.
      • Classification into different stages and forming a Glaucoma Risk Index based on the analysis.
    • Develop Software for implementing Digital watermarking for Inserting basic patient information in medical images with no loss of Medical Information for secure transmission & storage in databases.
